French pianist Antoine Préat peforms a dazzling programme of French music from his forthcoming CD. Fauré’s exquisite Songs without Words are paired with Rameau’s lively Suite en Sol and Debussy’s uniquely colurful Images. Haydn’s Sonata in B minor, poised but full of drama, brings an Austrian flavour to the programme, and Préat concludes the evening with Prokofiev’s electrifying Sarcasms.

Franck - Sonata for cello and piano
In a programme of favourites, Alice Neary and Viv McLean perform Beethoven’s A major cello sonata, composed in 1808 - the same year as his 5th and 6th Symphonies and 4th piano concerto. Nadia Boulanger’s atmospheric Three Pieces transport us to 1914 Paris, and the evening concludes with Franck’s glorious Sonata, composed as a wedding gift for the violinist Eugène Ysaÿe.
